Political turmoil in our country has historically left our beloved countrymen all around in the region and the world. In the region, Khmers in south Vietnam are call Khmer Krom, Khmers in Thailand are called Khmer Surin or Khmer Leu and the Khmers who live in Cambodia today are called Khmer Kandal (Khmer Middle). Actually, we do still recognize each another as brothers and sisters. We have been separated by political divisions caused by our dishonest leaders and the consistent invasion of neighboring countries. And we still hope for the day of reunion.
So our question to all beloved Khmers in Thailand is that, “Who are you fighting for?” Please remember that we are the same Khmer. We have the same ancestors –Khmer. We are the son of our greatest Kings Soryavarman II and Jayavarman VII. We are the new generation of the former Khmer Empire. We are a very civilized and dignified race. We always live our life of dignity, honesty, and respect. And please always remember that “One day a Khmer is a Khmer for life.” Of course, now you hold Thai passport or identity card but you are still Khmers because your blood and your origin are still Khmer. These will never change and no one can change that.
Please don’t help the Thai to kill our brothers and sisters. Please don’t help them more to invade your ancestors´ land. The Thai physically will be weakened without your participation. Just look at the history, the Thai could win over Khmer Empire and Burma invasion by the help of our Khmer Leu in Thailand whose expert are specialized in war elephant and martial art. So please stop and don’t forget our separation history caused by the Thai. You can choose not to fight against our Khmers by giving up this military duty and choose another career. Or you can mobilize our Khmers in Thailand and peacefully pressure them to take up the peaceful resolution and stop invading your brother´s land –Cambodia.
It seems that in the region, Thailand is the only one country that doesn’t know where its border lines are but not Cambodia, Burma, and Laos, and provokes war arrogantly all around with its neighbors. With this, Thai must review its mischievous politics towards its neighbors if Thailand does want peace in the region as Frank G. Anderson wrote in UPI Asia Online that; “The latest clash follows earlier, repeated, border spats with Laos, and with Burma. It leaves one wondering about the Thai Way of foreign policy.”
It is even ridiculous for the Thai leaders that try to deepen the dispute by accusing Cambodia of planting new landmine. In this sense, one may say Thai must be stupid for history because the whole world know that Cambodia had civil war for decades and these landmines believed to be laid from the Cambodian war of the 1970s into the 1990s. In another sense, it shows the world clearly that Thailand is absolutely invading Cambodian territory because there is no landmine at all in Thailand.
So again, I would like to appeal to our beloved Khmer who now live under Thai control, please rethink about this war and help do something to avoid this war to happen because we, Khmer, really want to live in peace and respect.

It is very sad. Even before the gun clash broke out my friend and I have been watching the vdo interview with soldiers from the conflict area. The Thai soldiers are Khmer origin they speak Khmer fluently but with ancient pronouciation which can still be heard by Khmer people from different area all over the country ie. Siem Riep, O’dormeanjay, Mongkul Borey in Battambang, Pursat, Norht and North East of Cambodia. Also Khmer Krom speaks very closely tone and Of course the Khmer in Thailand share the same tone. They even use some Khmer words of which are very old and we modern Khmer might assume it is different meaning.
The Khmer from Surin reflects alot about our ancient culture and language. The reason for is it shows clearly in their songs which they use alot of the old Khmer words ie…. B’on means place. We modern Khmer say Kanlaeng. Though we use the word B’on as well like… Bon Labaeng for gaming venues or BON SREY KOCH for brothel.
There are words that have vowel replacement completely. Like..the word Doch/Doj means SAME or ALIKE and for Khmer in Thailand they say DECH/DEJ. Another factor for the ancient Khmer tone is different from now is the introduction to new vowel SRAK OW. So most words with SRAK O pronounce as OW instead. For example GOW means to shave in old tone GOR.
So I think the Khmer soldiers for Thailand should stop fighting for Thailand. You are killing your own blood and flesh. It is sad enough that the 20th century world politics had made us Khmer kill Khmer in the Pol Pot regime. At this instance please don’t allow the Thais make our Khmer in Thailand killing Khmer in Cambodia. YOU ARE ONE OF US……since the great Khmer Empire.

They are not Khmer anymore, they are Thai.
The word “Thai” wiped out of Tai root and Tai origin when they were helped by Khmer from the Mongol killing. The word “Thai” robbed the Khmer native alphabets, Khmer vowels, Khmer numerals and replaced by the word “Thai”.
The word “Thai” created the problem for Thai people themselves.
As long as Khmer people live, Khmer people defend their Khmer heritage from Thai thieves robbing Khmer culture, Khmer lands and Khmer temples and claimed belonging to Thais without shame.

If we want respect from Thailand and other rich countries, Cambodia must develop itself quickly and prevent corrupt politicians from running the country. Lee Kuan Yew has earned respect for Singapore because he has been honest to his people and has been upgrading Singapore from a Third World country in 1960 to the First World in 1980..in less than 20 years. Cambodia used to have a lot of respect internationally in 1960s, but not now. Who will respect the country of beggars!!
Cambodia has changed from the Civilized World in Angkor Era to the most corrupt Third World in present day.
The Thai and many other countries look down on Cambodia because of bad government, ranging from senior brutal Khmer Rouge (Pol Pot) to the present-day corrupt Khmer Rouge (Hun Sen). They respect Khmer civilization, people and culture. They love it so much that they have adopted our Khmer forms of monarchy, dance, architecture, language and music. The current Thai monarchy uses Khmer royal terms in its court. One can see Khmer sculptors in almost every Thai museum.
Many Khmer people in Thailand want to join Cambodia too, but the Cambodian Government is too corrupt for them to live with. The Khmer Government is also exploiting its people by maintaining low pay for civil servants and factory workers, while rich officials drive Lexus. A Khmer teacher in Surin earn an average of $ 500 per month, while their counterparts in Cambodia under Hun Sen earns only $50 per month. Therefore, you cannot expect Khmer from abroad to come and live in low-paid jobs Cambodia. The Chinese used the Khmer Rouge to kill Cambodians in 1970s; the Vietnamese used Cambodians to kill Cambodians in 1980s. Now the Thai uses the same strategy. We must avoid wars with the Thai and Khmer in Thailand by filing our case to the International Court of Justice instead.
If we want respect, we must develop ourselves to an equal or higher level to our neighbours, like the Khmer of Angkor Era. We must vote out corrupt leaders and practidce good governance in every level of government. And we must use JCJ instead of military means to settle dispute, the practice adopted by the civilized world. Thailand uses its court to remove two prime ministers in 2008; we can use ICJ to settle land and sea border dispute with Thailand and Vietnam. We should get Koh Tral back by law. Cambodian lives are too precious to be lost for Hun Sen cronies in Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. Wehave lost 2 million people in the past 30 years..enough with military means.

The battle field is neither literature nor a matter of emotions that people can produce easily or difficulty. Now, who live in Cambodia is Khemer and who live in Thailand is Thai and this is the final reality. Does not matter what happened in the past. pronunciation, tones and anything else does not do anything with the the situation that we have.
The clear message is Thai should stop to capture the territory of others and others should be honest with themselves. For now, the third world war will be begun because of the issue of this Hindu temple because gradually this will be the interest of India, Pakistan, China and show on. If it will not be stopped immediately, an un imaginable bloodshed will be held sooner and later. Do not make it battle ground.
