Somchai Wongsawat (center) is surrounded by his family as he waves to media after receiving the official royal command, appointing him as Thailand’s new prime minister, at his residence on Sep 18, 2008, in Bangkok, Thailand. Somchai Wongsawat officially became Thailand’s 26th prime minister, Member of Parliament elected Somchai, brother-in-law of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra as Prime Minister on Wednesday to replace Samak Sundaravej.

Bangkok(ANN)Former premier Somchai Wongsawat’s family plans to hold an extravagant wedding party for daughter Chayapa, who will tie the knot with a son of Cambodian MP Sieng Nam, who is a close friend of Cambodian premier Hun Sen.

Chayapa’s mother Yaowapa is a younger sister of fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who may also attend the wedding ceremony, which will take place some time next year, according to people close to the Wongsawat family. Chayapa has reportedly known the son of Sieng Nam for some time. The Cambodian MP is also an acquaintance of Thaksin.

The violence in Thailand is viewed as the end of democracy in this country which this trend is still going on to suppress the opposition through out the country. Practically, the illegal govt of Abhisit besides its brutal and bloody crackdown against the poor red it also tries to censor and ban all the opposition voices through all media systems- TV, radio, internet, newspapers etc resulting with thausands of website censored, and hundred of newspapers, magazines, radio stations and tv channels banned.  But not enough with its political aim of controlling 100% of media network of the country over the opposition voices, Abihsit govt has even pursued to buy back the Giant Thaicom satellite from Singaporean Temasek for its complete mission.

Thai government is proposing to buy Thaicom Plc from Singapore-based Temasek Holdings to avoid future conflicts stemming from the use of the company’s satellites to air anti-government broadcasts, according to an industry source.

[...]

Mr Korn reportedly asked Temasek, as the major shareholder of Thaicom parent Shin Corp, to co-operate with the Thai government to stop the red-shirt protesters’ People Channel (PTV) from broadcasting inappropriate programmes via Thaicom.

[...]

The source said that if the deal was successful, Thaicom would in effect become a state enterprise and the government would find it easier to regulate satellite broadcasting.   Read the whole article here.

Whereas in Cambodia, Cambodian Ministry of Information has (MI) just banned an opposition radio program claiming it violates the MI´s directive which in fact it is a clear suppression . Read the whole article here.

In the reality, Cambodia media is 99.9 % controlled by the govt. The oppositions have only one newspaper with no right to own TV channel, and radio station. But they are allowed to buy an hour daily broadcasting from other  govt´s political affiliated radio stations.

Getting closer: Hun Xen and Abhishit

with one comment

To justify this please read Charles Keyes´s oppinion, op-ed in Bangkok Post to criticize the impossibility of Abhishit govt’s reconciliation plan. Read the key excerpt below:

A second factor that must be taken into account if there is really to be progress along the path to reconciliation, is the deep split in society along a combination of class and ethno-regional lines…

Negative images, especially of northeasterners, have been used often in films and TV dramas. In the past few years, people of these regions have been branded over and over again by commentators on ASTV, the television network of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), in many Bangkok newspapers, and in hundreds of blogs and Facebook pages as being stupid “buffaloes” and even more vulgar characterisations. Somehow those who generate such media depictions seem to believe that “villagers” are uninformed, and unaware of these characterisations.

On the contrary, they are very much aware of them, and this constant denigration has become one of the primary drivers of the conflict.

The Abhisit government has worked assiduously, although not always successfully, to shut down community radio stations and the websites which promote a red shirt perspective, arguing that such outlets have stirred up violence and hatred. At the same time, it has done nothing about controlling the hate-mongering that takes place on ASTV and in other media. Such is not only directed against the red shirts, but also against Malay Muslims in southern Thailand and Khmer in northeastern Thailand as well as in Cambodia.

Although the government cannot and should not attempt to control the content of the media, it can demonstrate even-handedness by prosecuting clear instances of incitement on both sides. It can also increase social sanctions against hate-mongering by supporting independent, quality media, boycotting media outlets on both sides that continuously spread divisions between Thais, and being more careful to avoid inflammatory language (such as casual use of the word “terrorist”) in official pronouncements.

NOTE: It is impossible for Thailand under Abhisit to carry out its reconciliation plan while its propaganda to paint the red shirt and Thaksin as terrorists and the use of the double standard to treat them are being practiced. Obviously, it took only a few days after the crackdown on the red  for arrest warrant charges against Thaksin, but it is almost  two years now still under investigation process to bring a terrorist charge against PAD who invaded airports and the govt houses 2008.

Actually, Hun Xen and Abhishit do hate each other to the bone arrogantly fueled by their different generation leaderships and background, but they have a common characteristics in leading the countries, ie., brutal, arrogant, stubborn, and biased (double standard). These two leaders have no respect for their citizens as a whole except for their group and cronies. With all these, they are now getting to close to each other in term of their leadership.

For instance in Cambodia; the assassinations of  country´s top and much loved actress Piseth Pilika (6 July 1999), venerable Sam Bunthoeurn ( 6 Feb 2003), senior advisor to Funcinpec leader Norodom Ranariddh Om Radsady (18 Feb 2003), FTUWKC’s president Mr. Chea Vichea (22 Jan 2004),  FTUWKC’ s official of Trinongal Komara garment factory Mr. Ros Sovannaret (7 May 2004), famous popular singer Touch Sreinich (21 October 2003) ), another famous singer Pao Panhapech(23 Feb 2007), FTUWKC’ s affiliates at SunTex garment factory union president, Hy Vuthy(24 Feb 2007), the acid attack on Tat Marina (9 Dec 1999), and the opposition journalists, which so far no criminal or suspect is arrested and brought to trial even some of the case the criminals are known like the cases of Chear Vichea, Tat Marina and Piseth Pilika.

In contrast, the cases will be carried out at a quick sweep if they are seen against the opposition or the poor Cambodians, except the CPP´s members,  like the cases of bomb attack at Cambodian-Viet monument, bomb planting in front of Ministry of National Defense, the charge against Hang Chakra, Mrs Sam Meas, MP Sam Rainsy, and MP Mu Sochau. They just took a few days or  weeks only. Pls observe as well that most of the charges mentioned above the the victims become the accused and vice-versa.

So to achieve the reconciliation plan in Thailand and justice, democracy and human rights respect in Cambodia , Abhishit and Hun Xen must stop their  double standard politics towards their oppositions and the poor citizens of both countries.

Thais spread rumours that Khmer mercenaries among the red shirts

with 13 comments

The Irish Time published an article on Siamese recent bloodhed titled :Mop-up operation in Bangkok under way,

A Thai shows Khmer Sak (Khmer Tattoo) on his back during Thai Tattoo Festival

which described the situation in Bangkok during the past, present, the damage, the rebuilding Siamese society, etc., and especially about the RED shirts violence which has again something related to Khmer. Read the article here.

Rumours swirl in the capital. Many say the Black Shirt hardcore rioters were made up of Khmer mercenaries from Cambodia. I witnessed one fighter with elaborate Khmer style tattoos on his neck and arms, but these are also popular in Thailand.

With this rummour Khmerization has reasonably reacted that:

Many red shirt protesters were mainly made up of ethnic Khmers and Laotians living in the northeastern provinces of Thailand who are Thai citizens. We need to remember also that the Thai media owned by the Red Shirt Movement also accused the Abhisit government of dressing up Khmer prisoners in military uniform and sent them to crackdown on the red shirt recently. How true are these rumours? Nobody knows.

Then followed by some anynomous commentators in Khmerization:

This is a ridiculous accusation. Such rumor are a bunch made up lies trying to point fingers at Cambodia for Thailand’s own embarrassing uncontrollable political bloodshed. Keep your own fight and your own problems in your own country. Keep your fights to yourself. Don’t try to incite and inflame Cambodia into involving in your bullshit chaotic political madness.

It is ridiculous that Khmers have become convenient scapegoats for all the Thai political problems. Khmers have gone through enough suffering and bloodshed so they would be scared to get into such dangerous game. If they found some Khmer-speaking protesters among the red shirts, they must be ethnic Khmers living in Thailand called Khmer Surin. These claims are total lies to try to sow hatred among the Thais against Cambodia and the Khmers people. The yellow shirts who brought Abhisit into powers have caused border conflict with Cambodia when they stir up trouble along the border that saw Thai troops occupying a strip of lands in Preah Vihear temple in 2008 that caused armed clashes and tensions until today. Stop blaming Khmers for all your problems. Enough is enough!

22 May 2010 2:51 PM

NOTE: If such a rumour is true then I can say that most Thais are born to be arrogant , insincere, and the enemy of the Khmers. They should understand that not only the million Khmer ethnics who live in Thailand are fond of Khmer Sak/Chak Sak/Khmer Yant/Sak Yant (Khmer tattoo), but even the pure Thais, they do love it for they believe Khmer tattoo is not only just an art like any other tattoo in the world, but it has the magical power for protection, luck and success. For example Khmer geometric tattoos, meant to protect the wearer, originally as protection during war/fighting times. Visibly, Khmer tattoo is  popular throughtout Thailand and even foriegners. You can see such Khmer tattoo  everywhere like on the human body,  in the shops, in the houses, in the taxi, in the bus, in the train in Thailand and even with Thai overseas. Please see some of the beautiful Khmer tattoos in Thailand are being used by boxer, taxi drivers, and businessmen: here,  here, herehere, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here.

I believe the rumour is true and circulated intentionally and politically  in order to:

  • tell the world that Thai people are nice people, gentle people, peace-loving people, and non-violent people.
  • make the Khmer as scapegaot to appease Thai anger against each other and turn the revenge/hatred towards Khmers and esp. the bloody Thai elite  and royal family will not be held  responsible for the bloodshed.
  • to save the good face of Thailand because Thai people are known for face-saving people and coward to accept their own shame as a real human being. Generally, when it comes to a good thing Thais like to say it is Thai  and yet when it comes to a bad thing the Thais like to say it is Khmer. For instance, please observe the tattoos in the links provided above if the Thais say a word that these tattoos are Khmer tattoos and those who have those tattoos claim that they  are Khmers. They proudly say those are Thai tattoos and they are Thais to show the world. But when it comes to a bad thing happened like  last week the Thais jumped  ship and  twisted  that those who were violent were Khmers because they had Khmer tattoos.

It  also seems that the Thai  ultra-nationalism propaganda since 1850s to treat Khmer as “Khmamen padong” - the jungle and uncivilized people, still lives on today, or  it reflectively seems that Thai people are still ignorant despite technology, communication, khnowledge  in the world are widely developed and accessible.

Lastly, I’d like to  advise Thais people that they should be brave enough to recognize their  bad deed and nature just like other human being, because no one is perfect even our worshiping Bhuddha. My last word:

If  You Thai people don’t know how to pay back your gratitude towards Khmer who once sheltered you and englightened you achitecture, art, dance, writing, and political organization, please stop painting us bad or making us your scapgoat through your arrogant attitude, hatred, ignorance,  brutality, shame, irresponsibility, cowardice, jealousy,  and inhuman manner.

The Nation Mourns

with one comment

According to the content of Bangkok Post it means the nation mourn for the lost of burnt billion dollar buildings, but not the lost of human life (Partly collapsed Central World)

The Bangkok Post, the biased news of pro-Thai elite and royalist, published an article in the front page titled: The Nation Mourns, on 21 May 2010 which I tried to avoid reading it many times when I surfed the site but at last I decided to read it  and ridiculously found it contradicted to its unique title. Please read the whole article HERE.

The Nation Mourns” doesn’t mean to mourn the lost of the civilian life during the crackdown ranges, but it seems to mourn the lost of elite’s property burnt down in the economic center of Bangkok and to put more blames on the poor RED. Why? Please observe in the followings:

  1. The Bangkok Post of the elite clearly doesn’t specify what they are mourning about. It just states: “Level of chaos catches government off-guard / A nation mourns. Death toll climbs to 52 in 6 days of bloodshed / Arms stockpiles found at abandoned sites”. Here the word “mourn” just appears twice in the whole article: (1) the title and (2) the sub-title with no clue to what it is emphasized on and the rest of the article just goes to something else for its own cause as usual.
  2. It published only pictures of the burnt buildings from the beginning to the end of the article, included some elements that the yellow and Abhisit govt are trying to use as evidence to justify their violence and accusation against the RED shirts as “violence”, “buffalo“, and  “terrorists” with some pictures of military operation equipped with modern war weapons seemingly confronting an Al-Qaida or a war in Iraq. In this sense it seems that the Bangkok Post values property lost more than the lost of the civilian life in the 6 days bloodshed. And it’s even more ridiculous that Bangkok Post forgets to include dozens of civilian and soldiers killed in the bloodshed on 10 April 2010.

As the voice of human being in the civilized world, in this sense, Bangkok Post should stay out of politics, if not in its nature, but just this one in order to fit with its article’s title and honor the death whether they are RED, multi-color, yellow,  or soldiers because they are all just Thai and even the foreign journalists who died in the cause. To be reasonably correct, it should  focus on the content which express the feeling of “SORRY” or “CONDOLENCE ” as a nation to appease and console the family of the death and voice its concern towards govt to avoid such a lost in any future of political crisis.

For me I’d like to share my condolence to all the families of the death as a friend, a citizen of a neighboring country,  and the same human being, and more than that to the RED, even they were rioting in the last fight which led to torching down some buildings and looting something, I am still sympathy for them because as I have observed the red violence occurred only after military crackdown violently carried out against them, for instance, the event on 10 April 2010 which as we know happened only after militay moved in to retake the rally compound under its so-called emergency law and the event in this moth which surely happened only after threes causes threatened: (1) the govt cut off all supply road to protesters and moved in military, (2) most important factor Seh Daeng was assassinated, and (3) military moved in to crackdown on protesters’ site and more indiscriminate killing carried out by the military. And remarkably not all of the red involved in the violence.

Whereas, the accusation of the Bangkok elite and Abhisit govt that this blast that blast hit by M79 related to RED shirt, that black clad militant,  those snipers shot soldiers and civilians are groundless since they have never been able to produce any reliable evidences except one-sided accusation.

WISH THE RED WIN SOME DAYS FOR THEIR STRUGGLE!

ASEAN second largest shopping complex is near collapse from being set to blaze-but why?

One of the most hate based newspaper that have been single-mindedly urging the Thai government to crackdown on the protester is the Post group.

That relation with the government is so lucrative the Post group got a big chunk of programing air time with the government TV.

The owner of Post and Central World is off course the Chirathivat family-where things are so cordual with the government, Abhisit, the Thai prime minister who ordered the crackdown today, has a cousin is a big boss at Post Today.

Post Today is off course so anti red and Taksin-it calls taksin and the reds  “BUFFALO”  in its front page all the time.

The ‘Hun Sen Model’: PAD’s Latest Ploy

Sunday’s PAD rally at Sanam Luang was eventful. Apart from the grenade, the shocking xenophobic rhetoric and Sondhi’s potentially troublesome remark, there was also a formal introduction to the PAD’s latest conspiracy theory: dubbed the ‘Hun Sen Model’. Prachatai summarised the key points in its excellent report of the rally:

Khamnoon Sitthisaman, ASTV Manager columnist and non-elected senator, gave a brief history of how Hun Sen came to power, and concluded it with the term ‘Hun Sen model’: getting support from a foreign military power [Vietnam], supporting an ‘unprepared’ royal to become king, having the new king appoint him a royal, using a communist organizing system to control a political party and the people to take power under the guise of western democracy (elections), centralizing political and economic powers and opening the country for western capitalists to exploit its natural resources. He said this was probably what the Thai ex-prime minister wanted to emulate.

[...]

He speculated that Thaksin would intensify his political campaign from December this year to early next year, when Parliament is closed.  The red shirts would also intensify their movement, besieging or even seizing Government House.  Thaksin would probably take a ‘long march’ from Cambodia, enveloped by a red-shirted mass. All this would be supported by the ‘underground operations’ of a certain retired general [another classmate of Gen Chamlong, Gen Panlop Pinmanee, who has switched sides from the PAD to support Thaksin].

he fact that PAD-aligned senator Khamnoon himself went on the stage to speak about this is remarkable in itself. As Thammasat academic Somsak Jeamteerasakul points out in this Thai-language forum post, Khamnoon is not a public speaker. He usually prefers to remain behind the scene, writing articles for ASTV-Manager and developing key strategies for the PAD. Very rarely does he address the crowd at a PAD rally. By making an appearance himself, it is highly probable that Khamnoon, along with other PAD leaders, intends to play up this theory and use it to attack Thaksin for a prolonged period from now on. Given the sensitivities surrounding the succession issue, this strategy of the PAD could lead to some very nasty things.

Note 1: The PAD has tried to spread a few Thaksin-related conspiracy theories before. Probably the best known of them is the so-called Finland Plot.

Note 2: A video clip of Khamnoon speaking at the rally and a complete Thai-language transcript of his speech are available here.

Breaking-Assasination attempt on Chartuporn

Chatuporn

We just got report that three bullets were fired onto Chatuporn, a key red shirt protest leader, as he spoke on the red shirt stage.

The bullet is said to be a high caliber from a sniper rifle-on top of one of the tall buildings surrounding the Ratprasong area. We have no information if the bullets hit him, but he did not fall-as the mike exploded into bits as one bullet hit it and may have saved his life.

The red shirt leaders comprises of Vera, Chatuporn and Nattawut.

Vera is ill and has not been on stage for quite some time-leaving Chartuporn and Nattawut to manage the red protest.

Chatuporn and Nuttawut both share similar views on the red protest-being to fight on. But the assassination attempt may have changed the picture.

Please not that all of the above is not confirmed news and is breaking-and we have no way of checking the information.

The RED SHIRT terrorist network

with one comment

In this picture is the alleged terrorist network the elite and Democrats in Bangkok accused of.

NOTE:  The elite in Bangkok call this network  - the RED NETWORK, as a terrorist group aiming at destroying Thailand.

To my point of view such a negative painting colour to the RED network is unacceptable and will affect Thailand future’s reconciliation since the RED have been deprived of their freedom to democracy, due process before the law, health care, and economic justice, and ignored their dignity. My question is that how can one work without a network? How can this group become  so popular among the majority of Thai people if it is a terrorist group and its oversea branches are not banned by the international communities?  And why don’t  interpol arrest Thaksin if he supports a terrorist group?

The problem today in Thailand is deeply rooted in Thai society created by hierarchical system and monarchism, and the Bangkok elite can’t  solve this issue by accusing its opponent -the RED, of being a terrorist to gain national and international support to justify its handling the country with injustice, violence, and double standard system.  For instance, the crack down on the RED is always carried out with more harsh and violent in both military and legal actions compared to the crack down on the Yellow.

Actually, I am for Thaksin even I am against his friend - Hun Xen of Cambodia, for he did help the North and North Eastern people, not because most of them are descendants of Khmer Empire and Laos, but because he helped improve their living standards and dignity.

Lesson learned: The elite in Bangkok always treat their poor compatriots just like they treat their poorer neighbors – Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
