Members of the newest political party in town are attending a meet-and-greet session in Phnom Penh today.
The Democratic Movement for National Rescue, a hybrid of the Sam Rainsy and Human Rights parties, has invited its provincial leaders for a gathering at HRP headquarters.
The purpose is to “be aquainted with each other and strengthen cooperation”.
SRP spokesman Yim Sovann and HRP spokesman Pol Ham told the Post yesterday that the event will foster dialogue between commune chiefs from both parties now under the same tent.
Sovann said the main point of the session is to publish a political platform and to establish rules for joint meetings in communes and provinces.
“We want them to know each other, because we have just started our new venture,” Sovann said.
Or, as Pol Ham metaphorically put it: “Sam Rainsy Party and Human Rights Party have already been married. We want to tell them about our wedding.”
He added that today’s meeting is very important for all members, as well as voters, to better understand the eventual merger between SRP and HRP.
And that after the meeting, the members of both parties will have an easier time campaigning on behalf of the new party for the 2013 national election.
Pol Ham said that because the party lacks a strong media presence, bringing the people together from the communes, districts and provinces so that they can head back and disseminate information themselves is key.
