Anti-Corruption Unit gets 800 complaints in eight months [You catch only small fish]
PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) – The Anti-Corruption Unit received 800 complaints in the eight months to August, up from 700 in the same period last year, President Om Yintieng said Thursday.
“Thirty percent of the 800 complaints are being investigated,” he told a UN conference on corruption.
Om Yintieng also said that half the complaints were anonymous and added that the unit was also investigating deforestation in Kampong Thom.
In one case, he said, the unit is investigating the son of powerful family who allegedly paid money to avoid being prosecuted for assault. A judge, prosecutor, victim and witness involved have been summoned to appear in court.
