Abhishit and PAD share the same view on Prasat Preah Vihear Khmer

In a televised debate between Abhishit and PAD, the two ultra-nationalists expressed their view to the public that they shared thesame position on Prasat Preah Vihear Khmer by declaring that Cambodia invaded Thai lands and were agreed to use both diplomatic and military means to solve the conflicts .

In a televised debate with the so-called Thai Patriots Network, a fringe group dominated by the yellow-shirted People’s Alliance for Democracy, Abhisit agreed that the disputed area belonged to Thailand, and that Cambodians had “encroached” on Thai land.

In this sense, Abhishit and PAD clearly reject the the verdict of IJC 1962,  the Siamese-French treaties, and are illegitimately demanding Cambodia to accept its unilateral map drawn after the 1962 ICJ´s verdict to justify its invasion over Prasat Preah Vihear and its 4.5 square kilometer surrounding lands.

But they  again flip-flopped after Hun Sen sent a letter to UN Security Council asking for multi-parties´intervention like UN, Asean Nations, and the 19 signatory members of the 1991 Paris Peace Accord which Thailand is also a member, then Abhishit and his gangs reiterated that they did  respect the verdict of ICJ 1962 and are committed to solving the conflicts peacefully, but not multilaterally.

The letter will rebut Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s claims that the Thai government has threatened to use military force against Cambodia, Mr Abhisit said.

He said Thailand was committed to solving the border conflict under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Thailand and Cambodia in 2000.

Thailand respected the World Court’s 1962 ruling on the ancient temple, but has the right to protect its sovereignty if Cambodia intrudes into the disputed land.

Mr Abhisit said the MoU is still in effect so it should be used as a framework to settle the border dispute. International assistance is not needed.

So if we are to reflect on the content of what Abhishit mentioned above we can understand that:

• He made self-contradicted statement over Prasat Preah Vihear by saying that Cambodia invaded Thai land -the 4.5 square kilometers areas, while he also accepts the verdict of IJC 1962 which puts those areas under Cambodian territorial integrity under the French-Siamese map 1908 in the annex I map.
• While he agrees to use the 2000 MoU as the basis for border demarcation negotiation, it means that he also accepts the Siamese-French treaties and the Siamese-French map as clearly stated in its article I. In this sense, the so-called 4.5 disputed areas claimed by Thailand are legally subjected to being under Cambodian territory. Therefore, what Abhisit and his extremist group have made has no legal ground to justify it.
• It is about time that Abhishit and his extremist group should try the resolution with the help of multilateral parties involved if they are committed to solving the  problem peacefully and respectfully for the bilateral resolution seems to be run out of time. So why afraid if they are the right men?
